Archbishop Currie to Visit Seminary
March 7, 2008

(St. John’s) Archbishop Martin Currie from the Archdiocese of St. John’s will be making a formal visit to St. Peter’s Seminary in London, Ontario on March 7 to meet with members of the seminary faculty and the seminarian for the Archdiocese of St. John’s.

He will be meeting with Father Brian Dunn a priest from the Diocese of Grand Falls who is serving as Dean of Studies and Assistant Professor of Systematic Theology and Church Law at St. Peter’s.

He will also be meeting with Philip Melvin a young man from the Southern Shore who is studying for the priesthood for the Archdiocese of St. John’s. Mr. Melvin recently completed a year of pastoral work at Sacred Heart Parish, Marystown. He is in the fourth year of his academic studies.

St. Peter’s is the alma mater of a number of priests from the Archdiocese of St. John’s.

St.Peter's St. Peter's Seminary was founded by Bishop Michael Francis Fallon, and opened on September 15th, 1912. From the beginning, Diocesan priests have been in charge of the formation of students at the Seminary. The present building, which was opened on September 29th, 1926, is located on the banks of the Thames River, and is surrounded by a campus of twenty-five acres, providing for sports and relaxation in a green, park-like atmosphere.

The Seminary is situated within the complex of the University of Western Ontario, allowing the students a wide selection of courses and a broad association in university circles.
