New Vicar’s General for the Archdiocese of St. John’s

(St. John’s) Archbishop Martin Currie of St. John’s has appointed two well known and established priests as the new Vicars General of the Archdiocese of St. John’s. Reverend Francis Puddister and Reverend D. Joseph Barton were both named as Vicars General on November 30, 2007.

Reverend Francis Puddister was born in 1950 and ordained in 1977. He has served in several parishes in the Archdiocese of St. John’s. At the present time, he is parish priest of Mary Queen of Peace Parish, St. John’s. Father Puddister will continue ion this position, and will retain the positions of Chancellor and Judicial Vicar of the Archdiocese.

Reverend D. Joseph Barton was born in 1947 and ordained in 1978. He has served in several parishes in the Archdiocese of St. John’s, including the Basilica Cathedral Parish of St. John the Baptist. At the present time, he is the parish priest of St. Peter’s Parish, Mount Pearl, a position that he will retain.

The Vicars General assist the Archbishop in the Administration and in the pastoral life of the Archdiocese, carrying out various responsibilities he assigns to them. Priests serving as vicars general are also given the honorary title of Monsignor.
