WHAT WE DO

“The celebration of Mass, the action of Christ and the people of God arrayed hierarchically, is for the universal and the local church as well as for each person, the centre of the whole Christian life.”
(GIRM, Ch. 1)

The mandate of the Commission is to:
  • Advise the Archbishop on all liturgical matters. This includes reviewing documents from the CCCB, and preparing archdiocesan celebrations, such as the Chrism Mass, Ordinations, etc.

  • Promote good liturgical practice in the diocese. We communicate with the parishes, and facilitate various workshops. Some we originate; others are requests from parishes – including a Bereavement Series. Several Music Workshops have been offered with internationally known facilitators.

  • Assist parishes in their promotion of good liturgy. We receive many requests for workshops, directly from parishes. We meet with them to discuss their needs, and develop the workshop.

  • Resource Centre. There is a Resource Centre, shared with the Catechetical Office, at the Pastoral Centre. Liturgical books and periodicals are available. Ritual books and CBW IIIs, etc., can be ordered at a reduced price. Consultation is available on any matter pertaining to liturgy.
