Archbishop Currie to meet with Bishops of Atlantic Canada
March 3-5, 2008

(St. John’s) Archbishop Martin Currie will be meeting with Roman Catholic bishops from throughout Atlantic Canada from March 3 – 5 in Moncton, New Brunswick.

Archbishop Currie said that the Atlantic Bishops “meet twice each year in September and March to discuss issues that might be of particular concern to the bishops in Atlantic Canada.” Archbishop Currie was not able to attend the September 2007 meeting because of a car – moose collision that resulted in his being confined to home because of broken bones in his foot.

One of the issues on the agenda at this meeting of the Atlantic Bishops is a report from The National Federation of Presbyteral Councils (NFPC). The report tentatively titled “Priest As Professional” looks at the role of the priest, examining such issues as the priests accountability and collaboration to the parish and community in which he works. Father Theodore O’Connor a priest in the Archdiocese of St. John’s is President of the NFPC.

The Atlantic Episcopal Assembly (AEA) is composed of Bishops from the Archdioceses and Dioceses of Antigonish, Bathurst, Charlottetown, Edmundston, Moncton, Saint John (NB), Halifax, Yarmouth, Grand Falls, Corner Brook –Labrador and St. John’s
