Anniversary of Episcopal Ordination
Upon his Episcopal Ordination on January 31, 2001, Reverend Martin Currie became the eighth bishop of the Diocese of Grand Falls.
Bishop Martin William Currie was born in Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia, on December 11, 1943. Ordained to the priesthood in his home town of Sheet Harbour, Nova Scotia on May 12, 1968 his life as an ordained priest has taken Archbishop Martin Currie from his home province of Nova Scotia to Peru and back to his home diocese.
His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI named Currie as the head of Archdiocese of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador on October 17, 2007. He was installed as the Archbishop of St. John's on Friday, November 30th, 2007 at the Basilica – Cathedral of St. John the Baptist.
Church Terms: Bishop is the title of an ecclesiastical dignitary ordained to rule a diocese as its chief pastor.
An archbishop or metropolitan, is a bishop who governs a diocese strictly his own, (St. John’s) while he presides at the same time over the bishops of a well-defined district, in Newfoundland, the Diocese of Grand Falls and Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador.
